The Natchez Seek Allies

9 December 1729 


On this date in 1729...

The Natchez tribe sent two delegates to visit the Tunica, requesting that they join them in their fourth war against the French. The Tunica refused to participate and escaped the ultimate decimation of the Natchez.

  • 1803 - The 12th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was passed by the U.S. Congress, directing electors to vote for a President and for a Vice-President rather than for two choices for President. 
  • 1848 - American author and creator of "Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit," Joel Chandler Harris was born in Eatonton. Georgia.
  • 1955 - "Sugar" Ray Robinson of Ailey, Georgia knocked out Carl Olson to regain his world middleweight boxing title.
