The Burr-Hamilton Duel

11 July 1804

On this date in 1804...

U.S. Vice-President Aaron Burr killed former Treasury SecretaryAlexander Hamilton in a duel over long- festering political differences. The duel would end Burr’s political career and start him on a shameful slide into treachery and dishonor.

Other Years:

  • 1985 - Nolan Ryan of Refugio, Texas became the first major league pitcher to earn 4,000 strikeouts in a career while playing for the Houston Astros.
  • 1987 - Bo Jackson of Bessemer, Alabama signed a five-year contract to play football for the L.A. Raiders while continuing to play baseball for the Kansas City Royals.
  • 1998 - U.S. Air Force Lt. Michael Blassie was laid to rest near his Missouri home after his removal from the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington after his remains were positively identified.
