Cassville, Georgia Burned

5 November 1864 


On this date in 1864 - The 5th Ohio Cavalry acting under General W.T. Sherman’s orders burned Cassville, Georgia.

1968 - Republican Richard M. Nixon won the U.S. presidency, defeating Democrat Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and American Independent Party candidate George C. Wallace.
1994 - George Foreman of Marshall, Texas at 45 years old, became boxing's oldest heavyweight champion when he knocked out Michael Moorer in the 10th round of their WBA fight in Las Vegas.
2009 – Muslim U.S. Army Major & doctor Nidal Malik Hasan killed 13 and wounded 43 at Fort Hood, Texas. An obvious act of terrorism, the government classified the mass shooting as workplace violence.
