Kit Carson and Captain Albert Pfeiffer attack Navajos in Canyon de Chelly who have been ordered to move to the Bosque Redondo Reservation, but refused in New Mexico

- 1915 -The United States House of Representatives rejected a proposal to give women the right to vote.
- 1944 - Olympic gold medal boxer and undisputed Heavyweight Champion “Smokin” Joe Frazier was born in Beaufort, South Carolina.
- 1948 - In Sipuel v Oklahoma State Board of Regents, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision requiring the admission of qualified black students to previously all-white state law schools.
- 1952 – The University of Tennessee admitted it's first black student
