On this date in 1936 - Brunswick Records first recorded Mississippi blues musician Robert Leroy Johnson in a room at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Among the songs recorded were the legendary “Crossroads Blues.”

- 1863 – Federal troops overran Orchard Knob to begin their breakout from the siege of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- 1992 - Grand Old Opry star Roy Acuff died at the age of 89 in Nashville, Tennessee.
