Sergeant York

8 October 1918

On this date in 1918 - During the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Cpl. Alvin York singlehandedly silenced German machine guns and captured 132 German prisoners.  For his actions, York was promoted to sergeant and became the most decorated American soldier of WWI.
