On this date in Atlanta was evacuated...



Confederate General John B. Hood evacuated Atlanta, Georgia, leaving the city helpless to resist federal arsonists.



Other Years:


  • 1864 – The secondnd day of battle at Jonesboro, Georgia continued with about 3,000 casualties.
  • 1893 - U.S. Marshalls and the outlaws known as the Wild Bunch (AKA the Doolin gang) faced-off in what became known as the Battle of Ingalls, Oklahoma.  Before the surviving gang members escaped three deputy marshals lay dead, along with one civilian dead and two wounded.  Two gang members were wounded and Arkansas Tom Jones was captured.
